Why Compete As An Individual?

January 19, 2018  |  Jamie Greene

Jamie Greene’s story is a remarkable one and with the CrossFit Yas Individual Member Throwdown looming, we thought it would be poignant to speak with an Athlete who has been there, done that and got the Reebok CrossFit Games t-shirt.

Within 3 weeks of her arrival in the UAE Jamie had won the 2014 Dubai Fitness championship. From that day on the Jamie Greene effect has snowballed and she is now a celebrity within the competitive fitness community.

The 2016 CrossFit Open winner has qualified for the CrossFit Regional on 4 occasions (twice with Team CrossFit Yas and twice as an individual). Jamie has also podiumed at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games with Team Yas and in her individual debut at the Games placed 8th. When it comes to competing, Jamie Greene needs to be listened to.

‘No way. Im not ready for that’

‘Not this time around, lifes been busy and i’m not at my fittest’

‘Nah I cant be bothered. Ill just watch’.

We have heard it all before, but there is more to competing that you think!

First of all you don't need to be an ‘Athlete’ to compete in our CrossFit competition, we do have prerequisites to enter but if you can do these movements, do NOT hesitate!

I can’t express enough how competition has not only given me some awesome memories with friends doing what I love but it has also taught me some life skills and helped shaped me as a person, it has also helped me understand other people a bit better as well.

What you will get from competing

• An extra push, you'll be surprised at how much more you can push once you are put under a little pressure, with friends, family and competitors cheering you through those last burning thrusters.

• The nerves (those butterflies in your gut making you run to the toilet every 10 minutes), the adrenaline before 3,2,1, Go, the excitement of seeing what your body really can do with this extra energy.

• Feedback from how your training is actually going, competition is a great place to show up weaknesses and showcase strengths, this will help hugely in your future training plans.

• A chance to cheer on your friends and fellow competitors because no doubt they will be having the same worries you are!

So get your new Nanos out, pull up your knee sleeves, chug some pre workout and get your name down for a Throwdown full of hard work and tireless fun.
