So, What Exactly Is Yas Kids?

It is a strength and conditioning program that is specifically designed for a special population and the specific developmental needs of kids. It is not simply a scaled down version of the CrossFit programming that we all experience in the adult classes. Yas Kids workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements that deliver a fitness that is broad, inclusive, general and scalable for any participant at any level. It trains children to be generally physically prepared, encompassing all ten general physical skills (strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, stamina, speed, agility, power, cardiovascular endurance, and accuracy) and in doing so prepares them for the demands of life. The goal is to pair fitness and FUN, therefore creating a lifelong love of health and fitness for our children. This program focuses on providing an exciting and interactive environment that shows children that you can have fun without a television, video game or iPAD.

As with our adult CrossFit classes, proper mechanics and consistency are stressed first and foremost. From day one, children are taught to pay attention to detail and perfect their movements before picking up a weight. In order to create the safest and most beneficial environment for children, all movements are taught “unloaded”. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance, and fewer sport related injuries. Only when a child demonstrates maturity and consistent proper mechanics will they be introduced to even a light pvc pipe or kettlebell.

In addition to the physical portion of the class, Yas Kids classes also incorporate short talks regarding positive choices, good behavior, and nutrition.

So, what can be expected from a Yas Kids class?

Yas Kid classes are separated by age groups (Tots, Kids, Tweens and Teens). All classes are 45-60 mins long. They consist of a fun warm up, skill work, WOD (Workout of the day), and will always include fun games. The skill work portion of the class will be when the children learn and perfect their movements. The WOD will be a short workout that will have the children practicing what they learned while implementing movements they have learned in the past. The WOD will never be the same, so kids never get bored and the novelty of it will keep them coming back for more. At the end of class, a fun game will be played to ensure that the children have FUN and enjoy their time at Vogue Fitness.
